Free recognition from Medicare data

Top Rated Nursing Homes (2026)

2,961 nursing homes stand out in Medicare’s own ratings for short-term rehab, long-term care or both. Recognition is free and can’t be bought.

How homes are chosen

  • Top Rated for Short-Term Rehab: Medicare’s short-stay quality rating of 5 stars, an overall rating of 4 or 5 stars, and a health inspection rating of 3 stars or more.
  • Top Rated for Long-Term Care: Medicare’s long-stay quality rating of 5 stars, an overall rating of 4 or 5 stars, and health inspection and staffing ratings of 3 stars or more.
  • Never included: homes on Medicare’s Special Focus list or candidates for it, homes with Medicare’s abuse icon, and children’s facilities.
  • Free and unpaid: no home can pay to be listed or to use the badge. Any number of homes can win, of any size, and the list is redone with each month’s Medicare data.
